Since having Tess, all things natural and non-chemical have been a focus of mine and Jared’s. It’s not that we are completely against every product we’ve ever used — I mean, I still highlight my hair..with bleach so…there are things I won’t give up. BUT when it comes to cleaning, cooking and hygiene we have really tried to toss out any unnecessary chemically-laden products. A few of the big things we’ve switched include laundry detergent, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, deodorant, and all-purpose cleaners.

Grove Co. is one of the places I’ve found that offers a lot of these product swaps for great prices. Here is the best part: they price match. If you purchase their VIP membership (which is $19 for your first year, come ON) you can price match any item and you receive free shipping on all orders! As Jared would say, “Yuge.” I swear, I’m not endorsed by Grove Co. I don’t get any kickbacks (wish I did though) and frankly, they probably don’t know I exist. But they’re pretty great.
Another really cool place I’ve found that sells amazing organic and chemical-free products is The Grommet. So random, but I stumbled across their website years ago when I was looking at jewelry. Anyway, it’s another great place to browse when you’re searching for your swaps.
Here are the products we use instead of our old brand name items:
  1. Buckaroo Organics Laundry Detergent
I know lots of people are hesitant to switch detergents because…like who wants their clothes to stink? I get it. Trust me, Jared is one of those who’s clothes NEED washing. Love him, but his BO is just about enough to know you over. But, when I started using Buckaroo Organics Soapberry Suds, I always felt like his clothes were getting clean. I never pull something out of the dryer and think “Woah. That needs another cycle.” Which is major because he works in construction so it’s not just the smell, it’s the dirt and grime too.
  2. Thieves Laundry Detergent
Another great option. A little bit pricier but worth the money because it’s super concentrated. I alternate between these two quite a bit.
  3. Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap
We use this as everything. Facewash, bodywash, even shampoo for Tess. I love it. It’s super gentle but still gets you clean. It’s olive oil based so it isn’t harsh or drying like other soaps are. It doesn’t leave that weird filmy feeling either. You can find it at Target or even TJ Maxx sometimes too.
  4. Acure Shampoo & Conditioner
Like I said, I still highlight my hair so I can’t really claim to be all chemical free. But I love the Acure line of haircare products. They leave your hair feeling clean and nourished. PLUS they seem to help cut down on the oil in my hair. I have thinner, oily hair that tended to need washing EVERY SINGLE DAY. But since I’ve used these products I’ve definitely cut back — honestly since I had Tess I’ve cut back — usually I go 2-3 days between washes.
  5. Jason’s Organic Toothpaste
My husband loves this stuff. I use it too sometimes, but I use orange oil as my toothpaste more than anything.
  6. Orange Oil
Young Living’s Essential Orange oil is my go-to for oral care lately. It’s great for whitening your teeth without chemicals or fluoride too. Honestly, I just like it better than toothpaste and I notice fewer canker sores when I’m using it over paste. One drop on your toothbrush goes a long way!
  7. Schmidt’s Natural Deodorant
Deodorant is one of those ones. Like I said, Jared can get stinky. He needs some sort of deodorant. We tried a couple other natural deodorants that just didn’t do the trick. But this one, this one we LOVE. I’ve tried the Lavender + Sage, the Bergamot + Lime, and the Rose + Vanilla. Honestly there hasn’t been one that I disliked, but the Lavender + Sage is my go-to.
  8. Thieves Cleaner
This cleaner is amazing. Non-toxic, but as powerful as bleach. Read this article if you don’t buy that. Seriously, I use it on everything from Tess’s highchair to her toys to her stroller. It’s amazing. Plus it smells great.
